The Northeast Ursamen as "Goldilocks
& the 3 Bears"
in Hartford Pride, Summer 1994
|
The Northeast
Ursamen is a non-political, gay fraternal organization that
exists to provide bears and their admirers with opportunties
to meet and enjoy time together in a variety of safe and fun
social events. Think you're a bear? You like bears? Good -
you've come to the right place!
The Northeast Ursamen came together in the
fall of 1992, just as the Bear movement was taking its first
steps out of the cave. It was a group of about two dozen guys
from the Hartford/Springfield area who got the idea that the
Northeast needed a bear club and brought the Northeast Ursamen
into existence in October of that year. Since then, the Northeast
Ursamen have been one of the largest and longest lasting bear
clubs in the region, if not the entire country. Only a few,
such as the Northwest Bears
in Seatle, WA (1990), and the Great
Lakes Bears in Chicago, IL (1989), rival the Northeast
Ursamen's dominance and longevity. While other bear clubs
have come and gone, the Northeast Ursamen have remained an
active force in the region's Bear Community.
The Northeast Ursamen offer an array of
events throughout the year to bring bears and their admirers
out of their dens, to meet real people and make friends. Month
to month, there's always something going on to help keep your
social calendar active. Why not come out and attend a pot-luck
dinner at a member's home to meet your fellow Ursamen in a
lower-key, down-to-earth atmosphere? If you like the outdoors,
there's river tubing in the summer and our annual trip to
Hillside Campgrounds, deep in the Endless Mountains of PA.
If you're feeling daring, come out to one of our Boots &
Boxers parties and show us your underwear! And who couldmiss
SpookyBear Weekend, the biggest Halloween Party in Provincetown??
Chances are, we have something to interest you!
