Being a Bear is a lot easier than defining a "Bear"....and a lot more fun! Being a Bear is a state of mind. If you feel like a bear, then you probably are a Bear.

Northeast Ursamen is a Bear organization whose roughly 200 members' varied backgrounds, interests, and occupations afford the opportunity for any Bear to expand his social circle within the gay community. Our members come from throughout New England and New York, with the majority of the members living in Connecticut and western Massachusetts.

Our mission statement: The Northeast Ursamen, Inc. is a non-political, gay fraternal organization that exists to provide bears and their admirers with opportunities to meet and enjoy time together in a variety of safe and fun social environments.

The Northeast Ursamen offers an assorted array of events, ranging from small trips and intimate gatherings to large events and parties. Included are restaurant trips, ski junkets, amusement park forays, bar nights, weekend getaways, river tubing, holiday shopping trips, and movie nights.

Quarterly newsletters, monthly mailers and periodic member lists keep you in touch with members and the latest planned events.

All members are encouraged to plan or help produce more new and different events.

With so many Bears, and so many events, you'll have the opportunity to make the Northeast Ursamen into whatever YOU want it to be.

Along with a sense of PRIDE and COMMUNITY, members receive:

• Bears and Hunters, the quarterly newsletter of the Northeast Ursamen. The newsletter consists of feature articles by members, commentary and coverage of club events.
• A detailed events calendar each month, as well as event updates through e-mail.
• Discounts on club-sponsored events, including bar nights.
• Invitations to member's only events: house parties, annual anniversary weekend, and getaways.
• Northeast Ursamen engraved name tag.
• Northeast Ursamen Membership Card.

Dues for the year are:

• $39 per year for single bears
• $69 per year for couples residing at the same address

Dues are subject to change annually. Members joining during the year will have their membership dues prorated, and will be issued a credit to be applied to future membership dues. Membership runs from 1 January through 31 December.
