15 & FURRY is Coming!!!

Alright Bears & Cubs, mark your calendars for October 5, 6, and 7 for a weekend of celebrating the region's oldest and most successful bear club! It was 15 years ago that about two dozen guys met at a bar known as "Just Friends" to hold a charter meeting of what would become the Northeast Ursamen.

Weekend activities include a scenic trip on the Essex Steam Train and Riverboat, followed by our club's business meeting, dinner and one kick-a$$ DJ you won't want to miss! Click here for details and get your reservations in! Non-member bears and admirers are invited to come celebrate with us. Members, remember we need your presence at the meeting for important officer elections!

Wet & Wild: Tubing on the Farmington and BearTwister??

This year we brought back an Ursamen Classic - Tubing down the Farmnington River. A big bunch-o-bears and friends of the club came out for an afternoon in the sun. As soon as we have photos from this event, we will post them online.

Part Two of this weekend's activities was an open potluck at Mark Peter's and we believe nobody went hungry! Not only was the food great, the "death-by-chocolate" dessert was unbelievable. Not to mention the candy-for-the-eyes, a couple rounds of Bear Twister to mix things up a bit! And was that Richie's bubble machine showering those twisted bears?? Many thanks to all those who came out this weekend and special thanks to our hosts who graciously opened their home to us.

Ursamen Compete in "Mr. Bear Cub New England" Contest

The Alley Bar was packed to the rafters with hot bears and cubs, but we think the hottest men were on stage! Our very own Matt K. and "Daddy Mike" entered the contest to compete for the title of "Mr. Bear New England". The contest included a display of "eveningwear", a question & answer period, and a hillarious yet sexy "World Wrestling" themed "naughty dance". While Matt and Mike did not take home the sash, they had one helluva great time! Ursamen Vice President Lud P., who competed last year, was the judge from Connecticut, and Ursamen Events Coordinator Kristen K. served as the Contestant Coordinator. The unspoken heroes of the night of course were the many, many Ursamen seen in the audience, including Todd L., Brian A. Craig, Mike Di., Skeet, and many others,

The official contest website has photos online - click here to view them. So who will compete next year? Think about it guys, even if you don't run, don't miss this event next year - Boston's not far and it's an awesome time!

UPDATED 9/24/07 - There's more great photos from this event on the FLAG (Fits Like A Glove) Website: click here to see some great shots!

"Bears & Hunters" Double Issue mailed in July

A very special issue of "Bears & Hunters" was mailed out in July and those of you who received it know exactly what we're talking about. Not only was it a double issue, not only did it have a full color wrap-around cover, but it contained some of the best moments of our history from the perspective of our club's newsletter. This one's a keeper, boys. You won't ever see a newsletter like this one again and remember that your club was built on a lot of hard work and pride. We hope you enjoyed your newsletter, and if by chance you didn't receive one, let us know.

Ursamen Return to Hillside for 15th Year!
One thing is for sure, Hillside Classic Campout is NEVER a disappointment, and the 15th year was no exception! Diehard ursamen, newer members, and friends of the club converged on the infamous Site 60 for a long weekend of beautful weather, fun, great food, and an all around good time. The club also threw an awesome party down at the rec-hall area as a "thank you" to the camp community for it's many years of hospitality and goodwill. Included was our ever-famous 50/50 raffle which raised a generous donation to Hillside's "Helping Hands Fund". Ursamen who returned to camp this summer may have also caught the Mayor wearing his Ursaman commemorative tee shirt while making his rounds. Thanks Mayor Dave! Many thanks to all who made this weekend a rousing success!

Butch & Bruiser's Irish Boxer Party at OOH 2007
If you thought Spookybear was fun, imagine the Paramount Night Club in Provincetown full of hot bears dancing in boxer shorts - that's what "Butch & Bruisier's" is all about! Bears from all over New England crawled out of their winter dens and made the trip to the tip of the Cape for a HOT weekend. Each regional bear club hosted an event, with the Northeast Ursamen letting lose another one of their trademark boxer parties. Guys, if you missed this one, you missed out! This event comes highly recommended - do consider making the trip in 2008, you won't be disappointed!

And in the Culture Department, Meet "Bearforce 1"
Okay guys, either you will love this or hate it. Imagine what happens if you mix a handful of your favorite bear-run patrons with Duran Duran or even worse, In Synch?? No, NOT the Backstreet Bears. Amsterdam has given the world it's first Bear Band (not to be confused with a Boy Band) called "Bearforce 1". Their first single hit YouTube this summer and it's been watched countless times already (alrignt, only 600,000+ times in just a couple months). They could quite possibly be the next big thing. They make it look easy to weave disco medleys together and dance around with far too many pastel-colored polos on, only to rip them off to "You Spin Me Round". C'mon guys, admit it, you're never too old for a little bubble-gum pop fun. Visit www.bearforce1.nl or pay YouTube a visit. Put a little dance into your step before winter gets here!
